General Information Only

The converters, calculators, charts and articles on kjtocalories.org are provided for general information and education. They are not medical, nutritional, dietary or fitness advice, and they don’t create any professional relationship between you and us.

Estimates, Not Exact Values

  • Unit conversions (kJ ⇄ kcal) use the standard factor 1 kcal = 4.184 kJ and are mathematically exact before rounding.
  • Daily energy estimates use the Mifflin-St Jeor equation and standard activity multipliers. Real needs can differ by 10% or more.
  • Exercise estimates use average MET values and don’t account for your fitness, technique, terrain or body composition.
  • Food values are typical figures for common portions. Brands, recipes and serving sizes vary, the label on your product is the most accurate source.

Talk To A Professional

Please consult a doctor, accredited practising dietitian or other qualified health professional before making significant changes to your diet or exercise, and particularly if you:

  • are pregnant or breastfeeding;
  • are under 18 or over 70;
  • have diabetes, heart, kidney or liver disease, or any other medical condition;
  • take medication that affects appetite, weight or metabolism;
  • have, or have had, an eating disorder.

If you’re struggling with your relationship with food, support is available, speak to your doctor or contact an eating-disorder support service in your country.

Accuracy Of Conversions

The kJ ⇄ kcal conversion itself is exact arithmetic: 1 kcal is defined as 4.184 kJ, so our converters and charts give mathematically correct results before rounding. Rounding is applied only for display, usually to one or two decimal places, and never changes a result by more than a fraction of a Calorie. Estimates such as daily needs, exercise burn and typical food values are a different kind of number: they depend on individual factors that no online tool can measure.
